Times change:
but the Masitterhof remains!
ONCE UPON A TIME …
The mountain hut at the "Malsitterhof", as it was originally called, was the "summer home" of the calves on farms owned by the bishops and clergy of the basin of Bressanone. The calves were looked after here in the summer. The name "Malsitter" derives from: "malga" (Mal), which means mountain hut, and "sitter" (not babysitter but "calf-sitter").
In 1935, visitors to Bressanone first discovered the Masitterhof, and it became a popular destination for city traders, who loved to spend their summer holidays in the mountain hut. The horseback ride from Bressanone was an experience in itself! Guests came for the natural setting, some peace and quiet, the company of like-minded people, and some pleasant sunbathing.
Today ...
Visitors from far and wide still come for the idyllic setting of this farm, located in a solitary position near the woods and surrounded by alpine huts. Needless to say, a horse isn't required to get here any more! The meadows around the farm continue to be the summer home for our calves.
The farm is a popular place for holiday makers who enjoy paragliding and hang-gliding: they can take off from here and glide over the roofs of Bressanone and the surrounding area.
